About Do Dham Yatra
- The Do Dham Yatra is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. “Do Dham” literally translates to “Two Abodes.” While the complete Char Dham Yatra covers four holy shrines (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath), the Do Dham Yatra is a shorter, more manageable alternative that typically focuses on the two most prominent temples: Kedarnath and Badrinath.
It is especially popular among devotees who are constrained by time or physical limitations but still wish to seek spiritual purification and divine blessings.
The Two Sacred Destinations
1. Kedarnath Temple
Deity: Lord Shiva (worshipped here as a Jyotirlinga).
Location: Nestled at an altitude of 3,583 meters near the Mandakini River.
Significance: Known for its rugged mountainous terrain, reaching Kedarnath requires a physically demanding 16–20 km trek from Gaurikund. It represents devotion, endurance, and detachment.
2. Badrinath Temple
Deity: Lord Vishnu (worshipped as Badrinarayan).

Because these shrines are located at extreme high altitudes, the temples are only open for about six months of the year, usually from late April/May to October/November.
